Insulation sets

Insulation Sets are often used in applications within piping systems to transport crude oil and gas, petrochemical and refining products, as these devices are electrically isolated from two coupling flanges to reduce the likelihood of creating A galvanic cell that would lead to corrosion of the flanges and pipe. Insulation sets are also used to prevent the flow of electrostatic charge to reduce sparks in hazardous environments. Insulation Sets often include an insulating joint and a set of two insulators and two steel washers and a bolt-on insulating sleeve.

VCS

The VCS insulation set is made for extreme critical service. It uses a stainless steel core with glass-reinforced epoxy resin (GRE) and a spring-activated PTFE seal. The high strength resin allows these joints to be used in very high pressure applications up to ratings of API 20,000. The VCS joint has been designed to be used on both the raised face and the RTJ groove flanges as well as mismatched combinations of the two flange styles.

The VCS assemblies are supplied with GRE insulation washers having greater compressive strength and cracking resistance than commonly used materials such as reinforced phenolic resin.

VCFS

The VCFS insulation gasket is a VCS design is a fire proof insulation set. The VCFS includes an additional metal retainer whose function is to retain the internal pressure along with the spring-activated PTFE seal used in the VCS. VCFS uses coated metal insulating washers to maintain compressive strength after being exposed to fire. The development of high-strength coated steel washers eliminates the need of an additional washer. The VCFS board meets API 6FB test requirements.

PGE

The PGE insulation set uses an epoxy resin (GRE) reinforced with glass with an o-ring or spring-activated seal. PGE can be used for flange ratings of class 150 to 600 and offers improved compression resistance over conventional insulation assemblies with greater resistance to compression and cracking.

PGE can be constructed from a standard G10 resin or a high temperature G11 resin with a sealing ring which can be manufactured from a range of rubbers or PTFE. PGE insulation systems are supplied with GRE sleeves and galvanized steel washers. PGE gaskets are supplied with GRE insulation washers with greater resistance to compression and cracking than commonly used materials.

Standard Insulation Sets

Neoprene-faced phenolic resin gaskets are often used in class 150 and 300 and in applications between -40 ° C and 100 ° C and often contain a central joint and two reinforced phenolic washers, two steel washers and a sleeve per pin. This type of neoprene face insulation assemblies are used for low pressure applications with low installation stresses and can be manufactured in two E type (full face gasket) and type F ( Inner screw).

Insulation washers can be replaced with stronger G10 articles with improved compressive strength. Insulating sleeves can also be made from phenolic resin or high temperature Nomex fiber.

Type D

The Type D insulation joints uses the same standard materials as basic insulation sets, but are designed for RTJ flanges and are made of reinforced phenolic resin. They are made to fit the ring groove of the tie flanges, the Type D seals have an oval cross-section and are suitable for low pressure service up to ASME Class 600 rating applications. Type D insulation set dimensions are similar to those of the phenolic flat Central ASA joint dimensions (ANSI).

Type E- Full Face Joint

Type E joints are flat and high surface flange gaskets (Flat Face or FF) and have the same outer diameter as the flange and the corresponding holes for the stud bolts. This design provides a correct alignment of the joint during installation, through the joint pass the insulating protection tubes of the studs. This type of joint minimizes the entry of foreign particles that can become conductive matter, reducing the risk of creating an electric bridge. It is mostly used in hydrocarbon piping systems where flange insulation is a requirement. Each joint has precision screw holes.

Type F- Ring seal

F-type seals are for Raised Face (RF) flanges, which are centrally located inside the bolts and their outer diameter is slightly less than the inner diameter of the circle of holes through which the studs pass. The joints are designed to fit the flange side of the face. They are used as flange insulation sets for oil and gas piping systems, they are manufactured from dielectric strength materials, so that minimal electrical contact between the flanges is guaranteed. The outside diameter is designed for alignment by the insulating sleeves.
